Abstract: This paper uses two Arabic chronicles of the mid ninth to early tenth centuries – the History of Ibn Ḥabīb and the History of the Prophets and Kings of al-Ṭabarī – to illustrate the development of the message of the Qur’ān into chronological narratives that may be read as salvation history. The paper also briefly considers their place within the Islamic historiographical tradition and whether comparisons may be made with contemporary Christian historiography. Keywords: salvation history Published Online: 2015/06/30 10:29:32 Object Identifier: 0xc1aa5572 0x00324b63 Rights: .
MEDIEVAL WORLDS provides a new forum for interdisciplinary and transcultural studies of the Middle Ages. Specifically it encourages and links comparative research between different regions and fields and promotes methodological innovation in transdisciplinary studies. Focusing on the Middle Ages (c. 400-1500 CE, but can be extended whenever thematically fruitful or appropriate), MEDIEVAL WORLDS takes a global approach to studying history in a comparative setting.
